We've categorized them here into cars and SUVs to give you the most accurate picture possible.

Smaller than an SUV, cars generally offer better fuel efficiency than larger vehicles. However, some cars provide significantly lower fuel consumption than others; here they are, classified by manufacturer.

Hyundai offers a wide range of models with remarkable fuel economy, and the Hyundai Accent is a perfect example! Depending on whether you choose a manual or automatic transmission, you can expect highway ratings ranging from 6.0 to 6.1 liters per 100 kilometers.

The Elantra, on the other hand, also boasts great fuel efficiency, with ratings ranging from 5.6 to 7.9 L/100 km, depending on the engine and model chosen. The Sonata (6.4 to 6.6 L/100 km) and the Veloster (6.9 to 7.1 L/100 km) also feature very appealing ratings.

On the Kia side, several vehicles also offer very reasonable fuel consumption! Just think of the Rio (5.9 to 6.0 L/100 km), the Forte and Forte5 (5.9 to 6.9 L/100 km), and even the Optima which, despite its status as a midsize sedan, boasts a remarkable fuel efficiency of only 7.1 L/100 km; this drops to 5.2 L/100 km if you opt for a hybrid model!

Mazda also focuses on fuel-efficient vehicles, and so far, it's safe to say the bet has paid off! It's closely followed by the Mazda6, which has on-road ratings ranging from 6.7 to 7.5 L/100 km, depending on the chosen engine. Finally, the sporty MX-5 doesn't disappoint and offers fuel efficiency of 6.6 to 7.0 L/100 km, depending on whether you opt for a manual or automatic transmission.

Of course, the small Mirage is the epitome of fuel-efficient cars! Indeed, it boasts a hard-to-beat fuel efficiency of just 5.6 to 5.8 L/100 km, depending on whether the model is equipped with a manual or automatic transmission.

Finally, with its fuel consumption ranging between 5.9 and 7.6 L/100 km, the Nissan Versa steals the show, but it is closely followed by the Sentra (6.0/6.4) and the Altima (6.5/6.7). Even the majestic Maxima performs very well, with a highway rating of less than 8.0 L/100 km!

Many SUVs boast surprising fuel efficiency that would make some sedans blush! Here's an overview, still categorized by manufacturer.

On the Hyundai side, several models from the manufacturer (Kona, Tucson, and Santa Fe) also show quite interesting results ranging from 7.0 to 8.0 (Kona), 7.9/9.2 (Tucson), and 8.0/9.2 L/100 km (Santa Fe). Even the robust Palisade, with its 3 rows of seats and 290 horsepower, remains well below the 10.0 L per 100 km mark!

At Kia, the popular Niro will help you save at the pump, with an on-road energy efficiency of 4.8/5.8 L/100 km. And by opting for the PHEV model, you'll enjoy a gasoline/electricity consumption of only 2.25 Le/100 km! The Soul also performs very well with a fuel consumption ranging from 7.1 to 7.6 L/100 km, and the Sportage, with 7.6 to 9.6 L/100 km, also holds up well.

Several Mazda SUVs are among the most fuel-efficient vehicles on the market. Among these, we have the new CX-3, which, with a fuel consumption ranging from 6.9 to 7.4 L/100 km on the road, has nothing to envy from the competition. The new CX-30 (7.1/7.7) and the CX-5 (7.9/8.7) also perform very well.

At Nissan, the Kicks compares favorably to several compact cars, with a rating of only 6.6 L/100 km! Its counterparts, the Qashqai and the Rogue, on the other hand, have fuel efficiency ranging from 7.4 to 8.2 L/100 km for the former and from 7.1 to 7.5 L/100 km for the latter.
